When 14-year old genius/outcast Eli Pettifog is rejected from Harvard, he ends up at Ivy League wannabe Whittman College. It’s hate at first sight. At Whittman, Eli meets 41- year-old freshman Leo Searly. Leo, a gambler whose world has imploded, has dropped out of life to enroll in college. This odd duo becomes unlikely friends.

I liked the movie though I could understand why some won’t like it. It’s a dumb comedy with ridiculous Quiz Bee questions and I don’t even know if the answers were true or accurate. Others may find it boring, but I was entertained by Eli’s ridiculous hair and big brain. The movie was light and has a few good lessons to learn. I also liked the fact that two totally different personalities became friends on this film. I admire Eli most because he was really a genius (I wish I had a brain like that). The movie also teaches us that it’s never too late to forgive, to change for the better, and to find what yourself wants. Friends are more important that our own desires.

Trivia: Alex Wolff (Eli Pettifog) is now part of the singing duo Nat and Alex Wolff with music genres such as Pop, Rock, Indie, Bubblegum Pop. Alex also portrayed the young boy in the Fall Out Boy music video ‘The Take Over, The Breaks Over’. He also starred in the movie ‘My Friend Dahmer’ which chronicles the life of the American Serial Killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
